UMG Takes over UDIO
Some think this is good news for the artists, but others don’t agree.

‘IMO it seems clear that the real reason UMG took over Udio is because they’re planning to use the AI to replace professional songwriters and producers. The act itself will need a human face, but since that’s all UMG needs, they’ll be paid substantially less for it.
Then there’s the real danger of the new Udio being a success. If it manages to surpass Spotify and other hosting platforms, then UMG will be able to control what is and isn’t legally permissible to release… a problem that grows worse if other AI models follow the same path.
These companies are job killers, not creators… and it seems pretty clear that this could go very badly for basically anyone who posts their music online.”
